Optimal Backup Interval for a Database System with Full and Periodic Incremental Backup
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper considers the following backup scheme for a database system: a database is updated at a nonhomogeneous Poisson process and an amount of updated files accumulates additively. To ensure the safety of data, full backup are performed at time NT=L or when the database fails, whichever occurs first, and between them, incremental backups are made at periodic times iT (i=1, 2, ..., N-1) so as to make the backup efficiently. Using the theory of cumulative processes, the expected cost is obtained, and optimal numbers N* of incremental backup which minimizes it are analytically discussed when incremental backup interval T or full backup interval L is given. Finally, it is shown as examples that optimal numbers are numerically computed.

Optimal Backup Policies for a Database System with Periodic Incremental Backup
This paper considers the following backup scheme for a database system: a database is updated at a nonhomogeneous Poisson process and an amount of updated files accumulates additively. متن کاملOptimal Policies for a Database System with Two Backup Schemes
This paper considers two backup schemes for a database system: a database is updated at a nonhomogeneous Poisson process and an amount of updated files accumulates additively. To ensure the safety of data, full backups are performed at time NT or when the total updated files have exceeded a threshold level K, and between them, cumulative backups as one of incremental backups are made at periodi...
متن کاملPresenting a three-objective model in location-allocation problems using combinational interval full-ranking and maximal covering with backup model
Covering models have found many applications in a wide variety of real-world problems; nevertheless, some assumptions of covering models are not realistic enough. Accordingly, a general approach would not be able to answer the needs of encountering varied aspects of real-world considerations. Assumptions like the unavailability of servers, uncertainty, and evaluating more factors at the same ti...
متن کاملOptimal Backward and Backup Policies in Reliability Theory
Abstract We are sometimes faced with the problem of searching for the actual failure time of a unit when it has failed until time t0. This is called a backward time problem of how much time we go back to search for the failure time from time t0, and is solved by using the reversed failure rate. This paper proposes an extended model of multiple backward trials in which we find the actual failure...
متن کاملProtecting File Systems: A Survey of Backup Techniques
This paper presents a survey of backup techniques for protecting file systems. These include such choices as device-based or file-based backup schemes, full vs. incremental backups, and optional data compression. Next, we discuss techniques for on-line backup (backups performed while users continue to access the file system); these techniques include file system locking and creating instantaneo...
